The Megalithic Dolmen of Monticello is located in Valeggia, along the northern slopes of the Bric delle Pernici, on the mountainside of the path that leads to
San Bernardino, situated at 199 metres above sea level.
It appears as a structure entirely made of Pietra del Finale, about two and a half metres high, with a horizontal board with a major axis oriented east-west, an orthostat in the
valley (which laps the path) consisting of a single stone structure, and an orthostat upstream consisting of two large stones adjacent to a sort of dry stone wall on which also rests part of the
horizontal board.
The chamber has a maximum height of one metre.
Scholars have noted that at 12.00 noon on 19 January 2011, sunlight illuminated the Dolmen chamber. In any case, the origin of this megalith remains mysterious and only
hypotheses can be made about its possible dating.
